Building Permit Application Requirements

  • This list is to identify documents necessary for acceptance of your application. All items are subject to change, and other requirements and/or documents may be necessary per staff direction
  • The City of Nogales is unable to accept incomplete applications

  1. Project Submittal Application Form: (Download Here)
    • Residential: Application may be submitted as owner builder or by registered contractor in the State of Arizona
    • Non-residential: Application must be submitted by currently registered contractor with the City of Nogales and in the State of Arizona and require an Arizona Registered Professional Stamp
    • Should include:
      • Property owner information and signature and/or authorization letter
      • Project valuation based on materials, labor and/or ICC Table Valuation
      • Santa Cruz County Assessor parcel number
      • Owner/builder or contractor signature
  2. Pay Plan Review Fees:
    • The Plan Review portion of the permit shall be paid for upon application submittal
    • $100,000 or less: 25% of Building Permit Fee
    • $100,001 or more: 65% of Buildilng Permit Fee
    • Permit fees are based upon the overall project valuation determined by ICC standards and/or contractor estimate ICC Table
      • Valuation of garages, porches, canopies, storage rooms etc is $14 per square foot

  3. Deliver 24" x 36" scaled drawings of proposed project: (Download Example Drawings Here)
    • Residential:
      • Two scaled drawings
      • If remodel/construction is more than 3,000 square feet, plans must be stamped by a registered professional in the State of Arizona
    • Non-residential:
      • Three scaled drawings
      • Plans must be stamped by a registered professional in the State of Arizona
  4. Submit project plans with the following (as needed):
    • Site plan showing at least the following: (Seven site plans for non-residential required, electronic submittal accepted) (Download Detailed Site Plan Process Here)
      • Setbacks
      • Location map
      • Location of existing utilities
      • Property lines
      • Show existing and proposed square footage of all living area, porch, covered patio and decks
    • Foundation plan
    • Elevation plan
    • Electrical plan
    • Mechanical plan
    • Floor plan
    • Plumbing plan
    • Framing and Roofing plan
    • Enlargement of proposed scope of work with dimensions
    • Construction details (description of materials to be used, etc)
    • Fire sprinkler protection plan (Non-residential)
    • Fire alarm plan (Non-residential)
    • Alternate fire suppression systems (Non-residential)
    • Other plans and/or applications as needed:

      • Owner submits Flood Plain Use Permit if required, as determined by Santa Cruz County Flood Control District
