Nogales Police Department Chief of Police
Derek K. Arnson
Chief Arnson was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Nogales in 2012. He is a native of Arizona and holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. He is a recent graduate from the United States Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA receiving a Masters Degree in Security Studies/Homeland Security. He is a graduate of the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Association. Chief Arnson has enjoyed over 22 years of police service and has over 14 years of supervisory, command and executive leadership experience. He is a native of Arizona and is fluent in the Spanish langauge. Chief Arnson teaches Criminal Justice courses at the Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College District here in the City of Nogales.
Chief Arnson strongly believes in giving back to the community in the form of service. He has been actively involved in many service organizations such as; Boy Scouts of America, Rotary International, Special Olympics, and the Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, Chief Arnson sits on appointed boards both in the State of Arizona and within the local community he serves. Recently, he was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Nogales Unified School District Governing Board.
Chief Arnson was a member of both the Eastern Arizona College and Northern Arizona University Football Teams. He has been a private pilot and owner of aircraft for over 24 years. He married his college sweetheart and has two children. Chief Arnson currently resides in the City of Nogales.
